The last 18th-20th of March, iCity was present at the FIA 2014 in Athens, at the Magaron Athens International Center (MAICC).  This is  a high-profile event attended by more than 400 participants from the European and International industry and the research and academic community, which were focused on the formulation of the new Internet technological landscape based on network/cloud integration & virtualization and innovative software, services and cloud technologies that enable application innovation. These subjects have been the main objective of the 11th edition of this specialized conference, trying to maintain competitiveness of European and international companies that were meeting and sharing their discoveries, innovation and knowledge in there.

During the event, iCity Project has been disseminated to more than 50 companies and organisations, while they were exploring different actual and potential synergies between projects from other European cities. Consequently, the project has been looking for new cities that were keen to open up information systems under the particular iCity goal, which is to provide a wider offer and allow the development of public services. For this reason, Jordi Cirera, the iCity Project Coordinator, travelled to Athens where he presented the project and also established the basis for relations with the Manchester city representatives, which has recently become another active member of the iCity Project, in the city Special Group of Interest. The FIA 2014 exhibition accommodated 48 booths and 45 project posters among which were those of the iCity Project, and provided an exceptional informal networking environment that helped the hands-on experience on the latest Future Internet applications, prototypes and innovative solutions that were shared, compared and somehow tested in there, during these 3 days.

FIA Athens 2014 was hosted by the Greek Research and Technology Network – GRNET and held under the auspices of the Greek Presidency of the European Union. It is supported by the General Secretariat of Research and Technology, Ministry of Education and Religious Affairs and, co-organized and supported by the European Commission.
