The first weekend of June (5th to 7th June) took place the hackathon “Next City” at the Talent Garden’s headquarters in Genova. The coworking company, Talent Garden, the online newspaper La Repubblica, and the company IBM organized the contest to promote the creation of new ways of interaction between citizens and government through open data. Which is the core of the European iCity Project, the growth of innovative and fresh ideas that bring Smart solutions from the Community towards the Public Administration.

During the hackathon, the participants had access to the iCity Project Platform, the Opendata portal of the Municipality of Genova and the IBM platform Bluemix. The three platforms were presented and made available to programmers, designers and experts who worked throughout the weekend, including night, developing apps that make “smart” the relationship between citizens and territory.

The jury of the contest, among others the Municipality of Genova was part of, awarded three projects, Hydrocube, Goband and Go Air in the third position. The prize consists on three free months at the Talent Garden in order to develop and improve the application they presented at the contest.
