The international automobile company SEAT and the iCity Project are working together on a new App, the ParkFinder, that could change the way drivers park in European cities. The project has started in Barcelona where there would be two pilot tests in November, one in the capital and one in Reus.

The ParkFinder App has been developed on the iCity Platform and collects information about the free parking spots in the city. As any other iCity Project’s App, it can be used in every European Country as long as it has opened its Information System to the iCity Project. This is also an opportunity for SEAT who have been working on offering new services to its customers in order to make their driving experience a much more safe and comfortable one.

The new App not only helps the driver to find a parking spot easily and quickly but also means a cut down of the city traffic and pollution. Jordi Caus, SEAT’s project responsible explains how helpful the iCity Platform is for this enterprise “The iCity Project works with a unique site and a standard format (the iCity Platform) that will allow us to use the App regardless of which city we are in. This is exactly what we need in Europe in order to offer this kind of service for a mass public.”

iCity Project started in January 2012 when the cities of Barcelona, Genoa and Bologna started working together with other partners of the project as Abertis, CISCO, Fraunhofer Institute, Citilab and the Open University of Catalonia Foundation (UOC) and the Institute for Advanced Architecture of Catalonia (IAAC). The project, which has been supported by the European Commission, is now in its concluding phase. The Final Review is taking place on 16th November at the Cornella’s Citilab where the iCity Project, accompanied by the SEAT team, will present the results of the pilot test in Barcelona and Reus. The results of this new App’s pilot test will be also presented at the Smart City World Congress in Barcelona which the Fira Barcelona is hosting from 17th to 19th November 2015.
